Why should I choose home care for my loved one?
A change in environment can be a very difficult adjustment, especially for older individuals. By choosing private duty home care, mom or dad can continue to live in their own home — safely, comfortably and with dignity. Living at home also means loved ones are able to maintain their independence and the daily routines they have grown accustomed to, while staying closer to friends and family.

Why should I choose Premier Homecare?

When you enter into a relationship with Premier, you can rest assured that you are getting the very best. A trusted name in private duty home care, we are known throughout the Washington Metropolitan Region for providing outstanding, compassionate care to older adults. Our reputation is underscored by a commitment to excellence and an intense passion for our work with seniors.

Premier brings great peace of mind to those who are caring across the miles. We rigorously screen, select and train our caregivers, all of whom are employees of the company. This is important because it ensures that your loved one receives continuity of care from a highly qualified individual who is a known entity — not an independent contractor. It also means that we take care of paying your caregiver’s salaries, taxes, benefits and worker’s compensation insurance; this takes a big burden off of your hands and places it on us.

How are you licensed?

Premier is licensed as a residential service agency through the Maryland Office of Healthcare Quality. In addition, all of our caregivers hold licenses or certifications from the Maryland Board of Nursing or the Virginia Board of Nursing.

What is the difference between a residential service agency and other care providers offering similar services?
Very simply, home care agencies accept responsibility for screening, training, insuring, and supervising their staff. The other models — such as employment agencies, registry/brokers and independent contractors — do not, which could put you and your loved one at risk.

Premier is proud to be a member of the National Private Duty Association, which offers education and best practices to private duty home care providers.

How long have you been serving the community?

Premier Homecare was founded in 2000. With headquarters in Suburban Maryland, we serve hundreds of families each year throughout the Washington Metropolitan Region. In 2006, we served more than 500 clients, providing 130,000 hours of care.

What services do you offer?

Premier provides a fully array of home care and home support services, all of which are designed to allow mom and dad to continue living in the comfort of their own home — in the least restrictive environment possible. Services range from helping out with activities of daily living, to giving medication reminders, to helping with other tasks like grocery shopping, light housekeeping and laundry.

While Premier does not provide medical care services, we coordinate and access a variety of outside care needs, including Medicare home health, hospice care, family and adolescent counseling, social workers and aging services. A one-stop shop, we can also coordinate other services you might need from outside companies and professionals. For example, if your mom’s stove is on the brink, we know just the right person to call and will take care of setting up the repair for you.

What are Activities of Daily Living?
Activities of Daily Living, or ADLs, are activities that are fundamental for self-care. This includes basic tasks for day-to-day functioning, including bathing, grooming, dressing, eating, mobility, communication and toileting. Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, or IADLs, are less basic but important activities like shopping, housekeeping, personal finances, laundry and meal preparation.

The real distinction between ADLS and IADLs is often made by long-term care insurance providers. They typically require that an individual be unable to meet two or more ADLs before coverage is granted. Premier Homecare can help you understand ADL requirements and the documentation needed for insurance.

Where do you provide services?
A company that prides itself on its flexibility, Premier provides services anywhere your loved one considers home. Care settings can be in mom or dad’s own house, a nursing home, an assisted living or independent living facility, a hospital or a hotel room.

Is there a minimum time commitment?

Premier Homecare will provide home care aides and companions for as little or as much time as you need — daily, weekly or around-the-clock, with a minimum of four hours.

How do you select and train caregivers?

Premier goes to great lengths to attract and retain superior caregivers. Every employee who becomes a member of the Premier family undergoes a rigorous screening process. This includes a thorough criminal background check, a health check, and the verification of appropriate licenses and certifications. Once on board, our caregivers receive ongoing training and instruction so they can fully embrace Premier’s philosophy for delivering compassionate, high-quality care.

What does home care cost?

Because Premier tailors services to each client’s needs, costs will vary. To discuss your particular situation, please contact us at 301.984.1742.

Who pays the caregiver?
Again, Premier Homecare is fully responsible for managing and paying each caregiver, including the withholding of taxes and social security.

What about billing?
Premier invoices clients on a monthly basis. We also take care of billing long-term care insurance, which typically covers many home-based services.

How do I start services?
Entering into a relationship with Premier is as simple as answering a few questions. Call us at 301.984.1742 to discuss your situation. You can also e-mail us at info@PremierHomecare.org.

How does the process work?
After speaking with you and learning about your needs, we send a registered nurse into the home to conduct a complete assessment of the home environment. Then, we develop a comprehensive plan of care to ensure that all of mom or dad’s needs will be fully met; a copy of this care plan is left in the home.

Based on the care plan, we select caregivers that have the right skills, experience and personality to match your loved one’s needs. As part of the process, we perform ongoing care assessments to monitor changes in your loved one’s living environment, health or personal situation. This allows us to adjust care plans as necessary.

I don’t live in close proximity to my parent. Can I still arrange care?
Premier makes it easy to care across the miles. Simply call us to discuss your situation and we will take care of developing a customized care plan for your loved one. After we begin services we provide you with regular updates, so you can rest easy knowing that your loved one is in good hands.
